july 13Being back in America instantly felt normal to me — blissfully so, the same way you might feel about sinking into a hot bath on a cold day, even if you can’t remember the last time you took a bath.

Still, everything is exciting to me. Granted, I’m kind of an excitable person under normal circumstances, but I can’t stop gasping at things like all sorts of food, air conditioning, dogs, cars with seatbelts and a normal amount of passengers, microwaves, fast (and free!) wi-fi, nice people, chatting with strangers, not being stared at, being able to take walks alone without fear, not being force-fed, customer service…

Shopping malls fall somewhere on that long list. So does being able to take pictures in public, although I’m still acclimating to that one.
